It’s almost here…

With Ramadaan on our proverbial doorstep, I thought it would be a good time to recycle some older material to help us prepare for what is probably the most important month of each year.

1. The Fasting and the Furious

For starters, I highly recommend listening to Muhammad Al-Shareef’s “The Fasting and the Furious” – which contains many important lessons for the month, and especially the middle of the month (when we lose momentum).

Follow these links for the video and the MP3 audio (click to stream, or right click and select “Save As…” to download). (Note: If the links don’t work, just search the Internet. The talk is quite popular, so you should find it easily).

2. The Ramadaan planner

Recycled from last year, here’s a handy 2-page template you can use to help you prepare for the things you’d like to achieve in the month. It’s very amateur, but it’s a template – so customize it according to your own needs.

3. Ramadaan inspiration
One of my favourite Islamic speakers is Shaykh Hussain Abdul Sattar, of Chicago, who has this knack for using easy to understand analogies to help make the listener understand some spiritual aspect.

His website contains a treasure chest of awesome audio material; including an in-depth series on purification of the heart, which I started writing about (kind of a transcription) in this article.

Anyway, for this month specifically, you can find hours of Ramadaan-related talks in the Ramadaan section.

4. The Ramadaan blog
And finally, keep an eye out for, which specializes in Ramadan-related articles, advices, recipes and more during the month.

You can find their 3-part Ramadaan preparation at these links:

  1. Part 1
  2. Part 2
  3. Part 3

May Allah take us all to this blessed month, and help us to reap tremendous rewards from it, and benefits that last long after the month departs.
